Maintenance

roller blind 263

One of the many positive attributes of blinds is they require little or no maintenance. An occasional light dusting is all that's required to keep them looking fresh.

The manufactures after care requirements should be adhered to.  However, some guidance may be helpful when choosing the best type of blind for the room setting.

Roller Blinds have the widest range of fabrics and finishes.  Each fabric will be labeled to show performance and after care.  Fabrics designed for moist rooms (kitchens and bathrooms) will have the ability to be wiped clean with a damp cloth.  This will not be the case with the more specialist decorative fabrics (i.e suede). It is always adviseable to check the fabric label before you make your choice.

Vertical Blinds Made from similar material to Roller Blinds.  However, the louvres can be removed for cleaning and in some instances can be machine washed.

Pleated Blinds Generally need light dusting only.

Wood Venetian and Shutters Treat as you would wooden furniture in your house.  An occasional dusting is sufficient.  Special 'finger' type venetian blind dusters make the job much easier.  If the blinds should become wet, simply wipe down and allow the slats to dry naturally.  They do not require any oiling. A little washing up liquid is ok but definitely no bleach based products.

Aluminum Venetian Blinds  As wooden venetian.

Roman Blinds are  made from curtaining material and are treated accordingly.  The majority of Roman Blinds can be removed for dry cleaning by releasing the Velcro fastener at the top and untying the supporting cords.

The above is intended only as an outline of the after care requirements.  Please refer to the manufactures instructions for the specific requirements for each material.
